Western Provident Association (WPA) provides an extensive range of private medical insurance plans for corporate and individual clients. Based in Taunton, Somerset, WPA takes considerable pride in its long history of successful business spanning more than a century.
WPA has been a Claranet customer since 2003 when the company took the decision to introduce an interactive website that would enable customers to buy and manage their own policies online. WPA needed trusted service provider with a reliable and secure hosting platform and to store sensitive customer data. As Claranet was already a trusted technology business partner, WPA asked us to design a new solution for their website.
Minimised downtime without compromising on efficiency
With the development of a new interactive website, it was important to WPA that they minimised downtime, whilst making their systems as efficient as possible. Due to WPA’s need to comply with FSA regulations and store sensitive customer data, they had to have a significant level of trust in the technical capability and reliability of their hosting solution. Due to WPA’s pre-existing relationship with Claranet and their awareness of Claranet’s expertise on best practice and solution management, WPA decided to work closely with us to deliver managed application hosting and Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) services.
A fully managed solution giving WPA the freedom to focus
Claranet implemented managed hosting for WPA’s customer facing informational and ecommerce websites, hosting for their internal accounting and business systems which are used from many locations across the globe and hosting for their company-wide Microsoft Exchange platform. We also provided WPA with a resilient MPLS, and IPSec VPN connection between the UK, India and Sri Lanka; and met WPA’s storage requirements by way of a Storage Area Network (SAN).
In addition, Claranet provided WPA with a managed application service whereby we own and operate an environment that provides dedicated clustered Microsoft Exchange services to their users.
With Claranet fully managing the solution, WPA now have the freedom to focus on their core business, rather than worrying about maintaining their IT infrastructure.
