I have another domain name.How do I point it to my Clarant website?

If your other domain comes packaged with webspace, the simplest and quickest way to setup a redirection is to create an HTML page, with the following code within the <head> tag:

<META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" CONTENT="0; URL=http://www.yourclaranetwebsite.com">

This will redirect visitors to your Claranet webspace. If you would like the redirection to take place after an alloted time, you can adjust the 0 to a preferred number of seconds.

Alternatively, you can ask your current domain host to set up a CNAME record to point to your Claranet webspace. As Clarahost is a shared platform, you will need to access the "Web Alias" section of your domain domain management suite to inform our servers of this redirection.

How can I see if people are visiting my website?Can people contact me through my webpage?

We have provided a script which allows you to include a hit-counter on your webpage, enabling you and your visitors to monitor the popularity of your website. It is also possible for you to add a guestbook and a "form mail" page as alternative means of contact. Please login to your domain management suite and select the "CGI Scripts" link for further information.

Please note: this feature is not available on our Clarahost Light package.

How can people find my website?

Most internet search engines add web pages, and rank how highly they should appear in search queries, based on how many other websites link to it. Therefore, if no-one links to your website, there is a chance that your website will not be found by any search engines.

How do I make my own custom 404 (page not found) pages? How can I block certain countries from viewing my website? How can I stop people from linking directly to images and files on my website?

If you have a Clarahost Soho package or above, you can use .htaccess files to control many aspects of your website, including password protection, prevention of hotlinking, IP blocking, and custom 404 pages. Unfortunately, Claranet does not provide technical assistance in regard to these pages, but an internet search engine will produce numerous results which will point you in the right direction, such as: http://www.javascriptkit.com/.

Can I put streaming content on my website?

Claranet does not restrict the content contained on your website, provided the material conforms to our terms and conditions. The only restriction you may find is that server-side processing is not available on our Light and Starter packages. If your streaming content does not involve any server side processing, then there should be no problem putting these files onto your website. Please be sure to monitor the amount of traffic your streaming content is using, to prevent exceeding your allotted bandwidth.

Where is your Perl located? Where is your sendmail located?Do you have (x) module installed on your server?

You can invoke Perl scripts at /usr/bin/perl, and you can use our sendmail at "/usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i" (not including the quote marks). If you have any other queries regarding the Clarahost servers, please contact our business support team on 0845 234 0711 or alternatively, email us at bsupport@clara.net.
Please note: the use of custom scripts is only available on our Clarahost Soho, Enterprise, Professional and Advanced packages.

Why is my script not working?

Claranet does not offer technical support for script-specific problems; however, one common mistake is to forget to make your script executable. Please be sure that you have given your script "read" and "execute" permissions for yourself, the group and others, and "write" access for the administrator. Please note: the use of custom scripts is only available on our Clarahost Soho, Enterprise, Professional and Advanced packages.
