FTP using Internet Explorer

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is the simplest way to transferfiles to and from web space via the internet.

FTP using Internet Explorer

1) Launch Internet Explorer, and enter the FTP hostname in the address bar. This takes the form of ftp://www.yourdomainname followed by .com, .co.uk or whichever domain extension you have chosen.

2) Enter your username and password when prompted.

3) Drag the files you wish to upload into the 'www' folder, which is located within the 'public' folder.

4) Ensure that the homepage of the website is either named 'index.html' or 'index.htm' in lower case, as this is the file that will load first when someone visits your website.

Using a FTP client software - Smart FTP

1) Launch SmartFTP , and select File > New Remote Browser.

2) Enter the required information as shown below, and then select 'OK'.

Protocol: Normal FTP
Host: www.yourdomainname
Path: /public/www
Login: Unticked
Username: yourdomainname
Password: your password

Please Note: These details will be supplied by us when you sign up for your domain.

3) SmartFTP will now attempt to establish an FTP session. Once connected it will display a window similar to the image below. Simply drag and
drop the files into the 'www' folder within the 'Folders' pane.
