Setting Up Mozilla Thunderbird

Thunderbird is a free email client offered by Mozilla (www.mozilla.com). The following is a simple guide to setting up your Claranet email account on Mozilla Thunderbird.

Using the Setup Wizard

If you are running Thunderbird for the first time and have not imported any settings from another email client, you will be presented with the "New Account Setup" window.

1) Ensure that you have Email account selected, then click on the "Next" button.

2) In the Identity window, fill in your display name, your full Claranet email address and then click on
"Next" to proceed.

3) You will now be presented with the Server Information window, please ensure the type of account selected is
POP and then enter the following information:

Incoming Mail Server - pop.clara.net
Outgoing Mail Server - relay.clara.net

Please Note: You can only use the Claranet SMTP server to send mail if you are connected using Claranet. If you use an alternative internet provider, please contact them for the address of their outgoing mail server.

Once the relevant information is entered, please click on "Next".

4) In the User Names window, enter the username for your account. For example, if your email address is "yourusername@clara.co.uk" the username you enter would be "yourusername". This will be the same for both the Incoming User Name and Outgoing User Name.

Please note that if you have a Claranet email account that is provided as part of a Clarahost package, then the username should be the full email address including the domain name e.g. yourusername@yourdomain

Click on "Next" to proceed.

5) In this window, enter the name you would like to use to refer to your Claranet account. Click on "Next".

6) The final window displays a summary of the information you have entered. Please review the settings to make sure all the information is
correct and then click on the Finish button when you are done.

Adding An Additional Account

If you are already using Thunderbird and want to setup your Claranet email address, please do the following:

1) Open up Mozilla Thunderbird.

2) Click on Tools and then Account Settings.

3) You should then be presented with the following screen.Click on Add Account and follow steps 1 to 6 as detailed above.
