If you are using an ADSL modem, install the software as detailed in the manufacturers documentation. Once the modem has been installed sucessfully, it is included as an option on the "Show" tab in the network window.
To set up the Mac to work with the newly installed modem:
1) Click on the Apple menu and select "System Preferences", then click on the Network icon.
2) Click on Location and select "New Location". Enter the location name you wish to give this connection, for example Claranet_Broadband. This field does not accept any spaces. Click on Ok to proceed.

3) Select the newly installed modem at the show option and you should see a screen similar to the one shown below. Please enter the following information on this screen:

Your username should look like either of the following:
joebloggs@adsl-1.uk.clara.net
joebloggs@adsl-2.uk.clara.net
If your Claranet e-mail address is johnsmith@clara.co.uk this would make
your ADSL username johnsmith@adsl-1.uk.clara.net or johnsmith@adsl-2.uk.clara.net.
The syntax after the @ symbol is known as the ADSL Gateway.
The gateway affiliated with your account would have been sent to you
once the service was activated.
Password: Enter your Claranet password
Telephone and alternate number: Enter 0

4) Click on the TCP/IP tab and enter the Claranet DNS server addresses. Once entered, click on Apply now to save the changes.
