Microsoft Outlook express is the default email client that is provided with Internet Explorer. Here is a step by step guide into setting up your claranet POP email account.
1) Run Outlook Express, click on Tools and then click on Accounts.

2) You will be presented with the window shown below, displaying the accounts you currently have setup in Outlook Express. To add an email account click on the Add button, this will in turn display a list. Click on Mail to proceed. NB. If you are creating an email account for the first time, you will be presented with the window shown in step 3 after completing step 1.

3) You will now be asked to fill in your name.
Type in your name and click on Next to proceed.

4) Now fill in your full email address here, the example is using the standard Claranet email address format. Click on Next to proceed.

5) The wizard will now ask you for the incoming and outgoing mail servers.
Leave the type of server at the top as POP3.
The incoming mail server should be filled in as pop.clara.net and the outgoing server should be filled in as relay.clara.net as shown below. Once you have filled in the correct server information please click on Next to proceed.
Please note that if you are connecting to the internet using another provider please enter the outgoing SMTP server for that provider. Alternatively relay.clara.net can be used when you are connected to another provider. This can be achieved by first completing the wizard, then clicking on tools, accounts and then selecting properties for the newly created account. Under the Servers tab please ensure that "My server requires authentication" is ticked and then click on the Settings button. On that window please make sure that "use the same settings as my incoming mail server" is selected.

6) You will now be prompted for the username and password that are to be used for your incoming mail server. Fill in your username and password.
Please note that if you have a Claranet email account that is provided as part of a Clarahost package, then the username should be the full email address including the domain name e.g. example@example.co.uk.
Leave the box for "log on using secure password authentication" unchecked and click on Next

7) Click on Finish to complete the setup process. you should now be able to send and receive email using your Outlook express email client.

Press the "send and receive" button to retreive your emails and to send any mail in your Outbox.

This will produce a window, which will display a progress bar and how many messages Outlook Express is receiving.

Once any messages are received, you can double click on the message and that will display the contents of that message for you to read.
